19th CSDP High Level Course 2023-2024 Manuel Marín González Module 1, Brussels, 25-29 September 2023
The 19th iteration of the CSDP High Level Course, named after Manuel Marín González, started this week in Brussels for 75 participants from EU Member States, EU institutions, bodies and agencies, and from CSDP Missions and Operations. Hosted by the Royal Higher Institute for Defence, the first module was co-organised with the Egmont Institute under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College. Benedikta Von Seherr-Thoss, Managing Director of Peace, Security and Defence, gave the opening lecture about CSDP 20 years on, highlighting the milestones achieved thus far and providing an optimistic outlook for the future.
The 5-day programme, dedicated to the foundational aspects of CSDP and CFSP and to EU crisis management addressed cross-cutting topics on the EU agenda, like Ukraine, Climate Change and Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), and how EU cooperation with partners is essential to tackle today’s global challenges.
High-level EU officials and academics came together this week to share their expertise and discuss what the future holds for the Common Security and Defence Policy. As part of the programme, the participants visited the European Parliament and interacted with MEPs and EP officials concerning the work of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence. Furthermore, the program offered an opportunity for participants to network and exchange ideas on the latest developments in European Security and Defence.
Next modules are scheduled for Madrid, Paris and Thessaloniki.
