International Military Academic Forum 2023 European 58th Implementation Group meeting of the European Initiative for the Exchange of Young Officers inspired by Erasmus Multiplier event on the European Common Technical Semester for Defence and Security, Athens, 22-26 May 2023
The international Military Academic Forum 2023, the 58th Implementation Group meeting of the European Initiative for the Exchange of Young Officers inspired by Erasmus and a multiplier event on the European Common Technical Semester for Defence and Security took place at the Hellenic Military Academy and Hellenic Airforce Academy in Athens from 22 to 26 May 2023.
The tenth edition of the international Military Academic Forum (iMAF) is an event that was born out of the desire to create and deepen a European security and defence culture, by ensuring a higher level of standards of education specifically for military students and young officers, in the context of the new challenges of the international environment. At this year’s edition, representatives discussed topics related to preparing future officers and finding viable solutions to increase the number of exchanges of students and young officers between military higher education institutions.
On the 3rd and 4th day, the 58th Implementation Group meeting was held. The group aims to increase interoperability and harmonise EU Basic Officer academic and vocational education by delivering high-quality and high-quantity education to our future officers.
On the last day, a multiplier event took place. The participants had the opportunity to exchange views on the European Common Technical Semester for Defence and Security.
These events set a new record in terms of the number of registered participants – 120, from 15 EU countries, Norway, USA and Canada and 36 higher military educational institutions.
The highlight of the week was the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Military Erasmus initiative, for which the hosting academies organised a special ceremony.
The European Security and Defence College actively supports the initiative, works in close cooperation with the member states and the military institutions in sharing European values, and strives to create European cultural awareness in the area of security and defence in order to be able to face future challenges.
