ESDC and Egmont Award the 2021 Global Strategy PhD Prize

ESDC and Egmont Award the 2021 Global Strategy PhD Prize

The European Security and Defence College (ESDC) and the Egmont Institute award the 2021 edition of the annual Global Strategy PhD Prize to Dr Magnus Christiansson, Senior Lecturer in War Studies at the Swedish Defence University.

The jury unanimously selected his dissertation on: Defence Transformation in Sweden: The Strategic Governance of Pivoting Projects 2000-2010. His profound analysis, demonstrating how the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy has an impact on a Member State’s decision, greatly impressed the jury. So did his engaging writing style, which proves that in-depth research can also produce a terribly good read.

Warmest congratulations to Dr Christiansson on behalf of the jury: Dirk Dubois (Head of the ESDC, co-chair), Prof. Dr. Sven Biscop (Egmont & Ghent University, co-chair), Dr Jan Joel Andersson (EDA), Inge Ceuppens (European Commission) Dr Daniel Fiott (EUISS), Dr Eva Gross (EEAS), and Prof. Dr Luis Simón (Vrije Universiteit Brussel & Real Instituto Elcano).
