Course on cybersecurity basics for non-technical experts, 13-15 June 2023, Budapest, Hungary
It was a great honour for the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) to hold this important training activity together with the University of Public Service, Budapest.
The course was opened by the course director, Dr. Csaba Krasznay, Prof. Anna Molnár and by the ESDC training manager and cyber expert, Mr Giuseppe Zuffanti, who explained that the aim of the course was to provide a better understanding of the EU’s Cybersecurity Strategy and the interaction of the Common Foreign Security Policy and Common Security and Defence Policy with the EU cyber ecosystem, including institutions, policies and directives.
The course hosted around 20 participants in a fully residential format. The attendees were law enforcement, civilian, military and diplomatic personnel from the Member States, EU national authorities, EU institutions and delegations, and various other EU bodies.
The course was organised in order to explain the current cybersecurity strategy and legislation from the European Union’s perspective. Participants learned about current cyberattacks, threats, vulnerabilities and risks in an accessible way for non-technical persons. This course went a step further than traditional cybersecurity awareness training and enabled the participants to use their own IT defence arrangements in a real environment.
Moreover, participants had the opportunity to network and to discuss views and perspectives with each other and with professionals in the cybersecurity field.
The intensive three-day course also gave participants the chance to participate actively in working group activities focused on case studies of actual cybersecurity incidents.
The ESDC would like to thank the speakers/experts for their exceptional contributions and valuable input and suggestions.
First of all, special thanks go to the University of Public Service of Budapest, whose primary goal is to educate future public administration officials, military and law enforcement officers (through BA and MA programmes) and to develop the skills and know-how of current public service officials (through further training programmes). Secondly, special thanks go to the course directors, Dr. Csaba Krasznay, Prof. Anna Molnár and their staff for the good organisation of the course and of course to all the participants for their active participation and commitment.
