SQF-MILOF Familiarisation Course

The European Security and Defence College (ESDC) had the honour of co-organising the Sectoral Qualifications Framework for the Military Officer Profession (SQF-MILOF) Familiarisation Course, together with the Spanish National Advanced Defence Studies Centre (CESEDEN).

The course was held in Madrid, from 7 to 9 October 2024, with active participation and excellent outcomes. The aim of the course was to familiarise competent personnel from the EU Member States and institutions with the SQF-MILOF Package by discussing the implementation roadmaps at national level. Additionally, it aimed at providing them with the basic skills required to bring selected national military qualifications into line with the SQF-MILOF and the Core Curriculum for Military Officers (MILOF-CORE).

During the first day of the course, the participants received an overview of the European Qualifications Framework, the National Qualifications Framework and governance bodies. Additionally, they were introduced to the SQF-MILOF competence-based qualifications framework and the Military Officer competence profile.

On the second day, the audience had the opportunity to work in teams on bringing national military qualifications into line with the SQF-MILOF and the MILOF-CORE, under a modular and guided procedure.

The course concluded with briefings on the European digital credentials for learning, the recognition of non-formal and informal learning into line with the MILOF-CORE, and the military qualifications database.

The content of the presentations and the highly relevant topics triggered thought-provoking and rewarding discussions between the participants and the experts.
