ESDC Doctoral School on CSDP Summer University, 02-07 July 2023, Bucharest, Romania
The ‘Mihai Viteazul’ National Intelligence Academy, under the aegis of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC), hosted this year’s edition of the Annual Summer University of the ESDC Doctoral School. We were thrilled to organise this event outside Brussels for the very first time.
The Summer University focused on peace, security and defence in the current international security context, with topics related to security challenges in the Black Sea region. PhD fellows from all over the EU had the opportunity to engage in seminars and workshops on these topics. They also attended lectures and practical sessions regarding scientific writing, publication, as well as research methodology, and interacted with mentors and experts from European institutions so as to draw from their expertise for their own research. A number of 47 participants (ESDC Doctoral Fellows and researchers for other EU universities) attended the event.
The opening ceremony featured Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs State Secretary, Mr Iulian Fota, a representative of the Romanian Ministry of Education, ms.Luminița Matei, the Deputy Rector of the National Intelligence Academy, Prof Irena Chiru, and the ESDC representative, Dr Georgică Panfil. During the welcoming remarks, all speakers underlined the importance of research and current security issues / EU priorities.
The event, as always, attracted the attention of specialists from government bodies, academia, research and industry and created a perfect atmosphere to share skills, exchange experiences, and initiate discussion about research within the environment of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
The ESDC would like to thank ‘Mihai Viteazul’ National Intelligence Academy for their great effort in hosting and preparing the event. Last but not least, a big ‘thank you’ goes out to the speakers for their exceptional contributions and valuable discussions, as well as to all participants for their active participation and commitment.
