ESDC Core Course on Security Sector Reform (SSR) – FINCENT, Finland

On 3-7 June 2019, Fincent organised a highly successful Core Course on Security Sector Reform in close cooperation with the DCAF-ISSAT training team that delivered the five-day Advanced course on SSR. The course aims to enhance the skills, capacity and strategic thinking of participants on SSR principles through the sharing of views and experiences in SSG/R trends and practice.

It highlights the principles and characteristics of SSG/R, enhancing governance and oversight of security and justice institutions, the linkages between justice, police and defence reform and the development of national security strategies. The course provides an opportunity for participants to:

1. Advance their knowledge on the SSG/R approach;
2. Increase strategic understanding of SSG/R policy and practice in the context of development;
3. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving tools and methodologies in the context of SSG/R.

A total of 29 participants from various backgrounds and coming from 16 different countries took part in the course in Santahamina, Finland. The course became a much appreciated learning experience for the participants.
