Successful Pre-deployment Training in Brussels Prepares Personnel for CSDP Missions and Operations
The Folke Bernadotte Academy, in collaboration with the European Security and Defence College, has successfully hosted the last Pre-deployment Training for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Missions and Operations of 2023. The course, held in Brussels from 4-8 December, brought together 10 participants from both EU Member States and non-EU countries, marking a significant step in enhancing peacekeeping capabilities.
The Pre-deployment Training stands as a cornerstone in the preparation of personnel about to deploy to civilian and military CSDP missions and operations. With the participation of 10 individuals from diverse backgrounds, the training aimed to ensure that each participant is suitably prepared for integration into mission life and operational readiness upon deployment. A critical component of the training involved providing participants with an insight into the latest policies, instruments, and tools available to fulfil the missions respectively the operations mandate. The training prioritised the enhancement of overall understanding of CSDP missions’ functioning principles.
Participants had the opportunity to meet and interact with Points of Contact from respective missions and operations in the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability and the Military Planning and Conduct Capability. This direct engagement provided participants with a first-hand understanding of on-the-ground realities, fostering connections and future collaboration.
“The Pre-deployment Training has been an invaluable experience. The practical insights gained and the opportunity to interact with practitioners and more experience participants have added a unique dimension to my preparedness for the upcoming mission.” – Drago Bubalo.
