Cybersecurity and Smart City, Brussels (Hybrid), 26-28 January 2022
From 26 to 28 of January 2022, the University of Thessaly under the aegis of European Security and Defence College conducted the “Cybersecurity and Smart City – Pilot Course”.
In respect of the Covid-19 norms and limitations, the 3 days specialized course at technical/tactical level in the domain of preparedness, took place in hybrid format in Brussels with the participation of 35 civilian and military personnel from MSs and different EU bodies, joined to exchange good practices and expand their knowledge and skills in the important field.
A mandatory and autonomous module on the e-learning ILIAS Platform preceded the synchronous phase, providing all participant, part of the EU Cyber Ecosystem, a common knowledge of the main topics of the synchronous course and, at the end of the eLearning activity, the trainees had to perform a short assessment and complete it successfully in order to be admitted to the live residential course.
The course increased awareness about cybersecurity and IoT cybersecurity at a city level, especially in the smart city context, having enabled participants to acquire core knowledge related to how smart facilities and services in cities are exposed to cyber threats, the stakeholders that deal with cybersecurity and cyber defence, the models, and frameworks that assess cyber security, and the processes that a city can follow to enhance cyber security and corresponding resilience.
The training as aimed to foster the development of a network of future civilian and military experts on cyber diplomacy, cyber-attack relief and collaboration framework between stakeholders in a city to recover from cyber-attacks.
During the live training, the participants, keen to learn how to apply cybersecurity methodology at city level, even have worked each day in hands-on activities.
