From 23 to 28 June 2019, the Austrian Study Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution (ASPR) conducted the Senior Level ESDC Course on Recovery Stabilisation, in Stadtschlaining, Austria, with great success.
The course was attended by 14 participants from 13 countries, all of whom hold senior positions in the UN, the EU, OSCE and NATO, and explored strategies for recovery and stabilisation to provide support in the fragile period between short-term peace missions and long-term development.
Aside from subject-matter presentations by experts, comparing various organisational approaches and highlighting selected key policies and challenges in recovery processes, the course also provided practical exercises in analysing case studies and on best practice in planning. The small number of participants and the large number of senior experts and facilitators available throughout the course, combined with a very interactive training style, were conducive to an optimal learning experience.
The course was offered as part of the ASPR’s cooperation programme with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence and is conducted in partnership with the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP).
Austria will offer the same course again in June 2020.
