Europe’s Training Initiative for Civilian Crisis Management

ENTRi was an initiative funded by the European Commission (90%) and co-funded by its 12 implementing partners under the lead of the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) in Berlin.

The programme began in 2011 and was concluded in May 2019. The total budget of the programme since its inception was 8 million Euro. The implementing partners were from different Member States of the European Union and Switzerland.

ENTRi was created by the European Union's Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace and was guided by the European Commission's Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), which is co-located with the European External Action Service.

ENTRi's final narrative report is now available. It contains a detailed description of all the actions undertaken under the specific project.

Handbook

This handbook aims to accompany mission personnel,  the whole way through the mission and back home. It will serve as an introduction to crisis management missions with hands-on information and practical advice for everyday life and work in the field.
This handbook offers a concise and handy overview and illustrates relevant concepts in clear and simple language – to help stay ‘in control’ at all times.
Thanks to the European Commission and the ENTRi partners the present handbook, is and will remain available free of charge.

Under ENTRi II the following free to use e-learning modules were developed:

This module provides tips for avoiding stress and helping you cope with stressful situations. When working in an international peace operation, high levels of stress are common. If exposure to sources of stress adds up or lasts too long, it can lead to physical and mental health problems. Therefore, it is important that you are aware of the causes and effects of stress, and that you know how to deal with them, identify your individual coping mechanisms, and protect your personal boundaries.
Within this course you will learn how to recognize and analyze intercultural challenges. In addition, you will better understand cultural differences. This will enable you to design effective actions and foster cooperation across cultures. (a new version will be released by December 2019 that will not require adobe flash player to be installed)

Nowadays, learning does not necessarily require you to sit in an actual classroom. e-learning is a convenient way to acquire new skills on your own schedule without having to leave your desk.

The list below provides you with various e-learning platforms, most of which offer web-based courses that are free of charge.
