‘Challenges of Space for the EU and CSDP’ course, Paris, 11-13 Feb 2025.
The European Security and Defence College (ESDC) had the privilege of co-organizing the course “Challenges of Space for the EU and CSDP” in partnership with the French Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN). Held in Paris, France, from 11 to 13 February 2025, the course aimed to enhance awareness of the growing importance of space activities within the framework of the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP).
The course opened with a keynote speech by Prefect Nicolas BASSELIER, Deputy Director of IHEDN, followed by discussions on EU and national space strategies and policies.
The second day focused on partnerships and cooperation in the space domain, addressing the key security challenges the EU faces in this area.
On the final day, participants explored the EU space industry and strategies to maintain competitiveness in an increasingly contested domain. The course closing ceremony was led by General Hervé de Courrèges, Director of the IHEDN, who highlighted the strong cooperation between the ESDC and IHEDN and its role in strengthening a common European understanding in this critical domain.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the speakers for their invaluable contributions and insightful presentations. We also appreciate the 28 participants for their trust in the ESDC, and we remain committed to delivering high-quality training in the future.
