Pre-deployment training for CSDP missions and operations in Brussels, 5-9 February 2024
The European Security and Defence College (ESDC), in cooperation with the Romanian National College of Home Affairs (CNAI), organised a new edition of the ‘Pre deployment training for Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions and operations’. The course, held in Brussels from 5 to 9 February, brought together 25 participants from both EU Member States and non-EU countries preparing for deployment to eight civilian missions, one military mission and one European Union operation.
The course was the 67th pre-deployment training course to be organised in Brussels since 2016. As is generally recognised, all international personnel should receive pre-deployment training (PDT)prior to their deployment to the mission area. The importance of proper PDT is mentioned as a mandatory prerequisite in the EU Policy on Training for CSDP (2017). Training and deployment are interconnected. Recruitment is necessarily a competence-based process taking into account acquired skills, knowledge and experience.
Pre-deployment training (PDT) is instrumental to maintaining a common organisational standard for all personnel, and is linked to the duty of care, thus ensuring the EU’s accountability and credibility, including through generic standards of behaviour and a code of conduct.
At the end of this five-day event, the participants expressed their satisfaction and delight at having been able to meet so many motivated and experienced people and so many inspiring speakers willing to pass on their knowledge.
